Springfield, MO – The Show Me Music and Arts Festival announces a joint endeavor with the United Way of the Ozarks to raise support for long term recovery for the community of Joplin, MO.

On May 22nd, the most devastating tornado in US history struck the town of Joplin leaving 134 people dead and causing millions of dollars in damages. Joplin is considered a sister city of Springfield and many families reside within both communities. Throughout the three day music festival, Show Me Music Fest and United Way will be coordinating four primary activities to raise funds for the relief efforts. There will be a silent auction, a live auction, items for sale such as t-shirts and beach towels, and volunteers at all entrances taking donations and encouraging everyone to “Buck UP for Joplin”. All funds raised from these auctions will be sent to The United Way of Southwest Missouri and St. John’s Mercy Hospital, which provides 80% of the charity care (uninsured patients) in this region, and took a direct hit from the tornado.
