“Think Ella Fitzgerald meets Buddy Holly in a rollicking blend of rockabilly, pop, punk, and jazz.”
Portland Oregan’s Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside come to SXSW to put out their unique alloy of roots, jazz, and … I’m not sure. Catches you off guard, then you go. Wow. Interesting. I’d like to listen to a little more of that.

Voted Best New Band of 2010 by Willamette Week, which proclaimed “You simply can’t ignore this band,” Ford caught her big break last year when The Avett Brothers invited her to open two sold-out shows in Portland. The Avetts were so enamored with Ford’s sound, they asked her back to North Carolina to open their annual New Year’s Eve blowout in Ford’s native Asheville.
“Her songs have that rare quality of somehow combining fun with emotional and artistic integrity,” Seth Avett raved in an interview with The Oregonian. “Her voice is 100 percent her own, and she fills the room with it.”
