Raised Country Tips its Hat Goodbye

Mike and Liz Strong

Mike and Liz Strong

I started “Raised Country!” in 2009 during the first extended period of unemployment I had ever experienced. This blog helped me keep my sanity when I could not find any work in my field of 35 years.

In spite of my white hair, by God’s grace, opportunities began to materialize and I have been gainfully employed for the last two years, and now, I need to devote my time to other things.

Raised Country has been visited by tens of thousands of people from all over the world. This has exceeded all of my expectations.  Still, it’s daily visitation levels are fairly low (about 50 to 100 visitors a day).  Given the tepid interest in the site and my having less time to give to it, I have decided to retire the site.

I may leave it on the air indefinitely, but my contributions to it (which have been mostly press release filler), will slow to a trickle or stop altogether.

My original vision for this blog site was to accumulate great, heart felt or fun “roots” stories from anyone with a memorable story to tell. We even had a Raised Country! Radio Spot that aired for awhile in 2010.

Good stories and tall tales are hard to get now. Indeed, one of the wonderful things about the Internet is that it frees everyone to put up their own blog. You don’t need to piggy back on anyone else’s. :)  If, however, you still want to submit your tall tale, I will always enjoy getting more stories to share.  Just click on the “Tell Your Tall Tale” link above.

This has been cathartic and fun, and I thank all who have visited this site. I hope you found some enjoyment or benefit from it.

God bless you.

Regards,
Mike & Liz Strong

Campfire Cafe Takes Outdoor Cuisine to the Next Level

Image

Call me slow, but I only recently learned of an outdoor cooking tv show, web site, and blog called “Campfire Cafe”. If you love to camp, and love outdoor cooking, this is a must-see series for you, and you should definitely bookmark their blog and website.

When their new season premiers on September 26th, it will air on RFD-TV (Dish channel 231, Directv channel 345).  They air Monday at 5:30 pm EST and Tuesday at 3:30 am EST.  So, the Tuesday airing time has “record me” all over it.  Set it up in your DVR and just watch it when you want plop down on that sofa in the evening.

Anyone following “Raised Country!” knows that we have a soft spot in our hearts for The Roys, ICM award winners two years in a row. Well, The Roys have created the new theme song for Campfire Cafe!

From Their “About Us” Page

Before clicking the following link, beware that it starts playing upon arrival.  So, if you’re at the office and your speakers are on, you’ve been warned that you’re gonna make some noise.  :o)

Go check out Campfire Cafe’s “About Us” video.  It’s one they did back when they were just launching. This page is actually not easy to find, and needs a little updating, but the clip therein might get you pretty “fired up” to learn some tricks from these folks.

They’re not a traditional “dutch oven” cooking show.  They combine modern techniques with old to produce what they call “gourmet campfire cuisine”.
